Ever been whale watching? There's nothing quite like the thrill of being out on the ocean (be sure to observe the 100-yard minimum distance regulation) while getting a close-up look at these magnificent creatures--certainly one of Maui's main attractions this time of year. Actually, our whale season starts in December, with stragglers hanging around until late April, but now is the time that our numbers are the highest.
Speaking of numbers (segue), I promised year-end stats for 2006 (comparing to 2005) with this month's newsletter. A capsulized overview looks like this:

Like many other parts of the country, our number of sales were down considerably, but the units that did sell still showed considerable appreciation, especially condos. I believe that this speaks to the continuing high perceived value of Maui Real Estate, in spite of trends in other localities; there's only so much ocean-oriented real estate and a lot of people who want it. Interestingly, number of sales in the Wailea/Makena area actually increased slightly for 2006.
